The application process

… from the perspective of an eligible candidate.

Note: Awards are generally in the region of £250 – £750.

  1. You will be given the name of our staff representative in your establishment who will provide you with our application form and guide you through our application process.
  2. If all the sections of the form have been completed and you have positive endorsements from the two required staff members, and are considered eligible, your name will be placed on the candidate list for the next selection meeting for which applications are being accepted. See important dates listed here.
  3. You will be expected to be available for an informal interview with one of the Trust’s assessors and the interview may take place either in your prison or outside in the community. If you are not available for interview on the requested date, your application will be held over to the following selection meeting.
  4. After the interview, the Trust assessor will complete a report based both on your application form and the interview and this report will be circulated to all committee members prior to the selection meeting.
  5. The report will be discussed by the committee at the selection meeting and a decision will be made as to whether or not you will receive an award. If it is decided that you will be granted an award, there will be further discussion to determine the amount of your award and any conditions that will apply.
  6. Within a week of the selection meeting you should receive a letter telling you the result of your application. If it is a letter congratulating you upon being granted an award, you will receive instructions on how the money can be drawn down. You will also be invited to the award ceremony which you will be expected to attend unless it is impossible for you to do so.

Please note that if between the time an award is granted and the award money is claimed you are transferred back to more secure conditions, the award automatically becomes void. However the opportunity to reapply for future consideration always remains open to you.
