The Treasurer is the Board’s lead for financial governance, ensuring strong financial health, compliance, and effective resource allocation.

About The Hardman Trust

Established in 1994, The Hardman Trust specialises in the unique needs of people serving long sentences.  We provide tailored, practical, and financial support to help individuals move into work or training, build confidence and belonging, and achieve their personal goals within and beyond prison.

We are a values-driven organisation with a small, committed team and an engaged Board.  With a new strategy in development, and a governance review planned for 2026, making this an exciting time to join the Trust.

The Role

The Treasurer is the Board’s lead for financial governance, ensuring strong financial health, compliance, and effective resource allocation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Advise in the development and evolvement of The Hardman Trust’s strategy and work to ensure that the organisation has resources to deliver the strategy.
• Ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with relevant charitable and company legislation.
• Provide clear financial insight to the Board to inform strategic decisions.
• Ensure compliance with Company and Charity law.
• Oversee annual audit/independent examination.

The time commitment is approximately 2 days per month, including 4 Board meetings per year (2 in person in London and 2 virtual).  This is a voluntary role; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

We are seeking a strategic and mission-aligned individual, with strong financial/accounting experience.

We welcome applications from individuals whose perspectives are currently underrepresented in charity governance.
