Statement from the Board of Trustees
We are delighted to announce that after a thorough and competitive recruitment process, the Board has appointed Annette So to the role of Chief Executive.
Annette joins us after four and a half years at the Criminal Justice Alliance (CJA), where she most recently served as Director. In that role, she led the team in championing a fairer and more effective justice system, extending the organisation’s reach and strengthening its influence.
With a background in law, human rights, and justice charity leadership, Annette brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Hardman Trust. At the CJA, she oversaw the landmark Time for Change report, which set out a bold vision for collaborative criminal justice reform; campaigned to address discriminatory stop-and-search practices; and expanded ELEVATE CJS, a leadership programme designed to put lived experience at the heart of reform. She is also a trustee at Hibiscus Initiatives.
We are looking forward to Annette joining the Trust in the Autumn, to lead the charity in developing its future strategy, working together to continue to support long term prisoners to take their next steps in life.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the Hardman Trust. I have been deeply moved and inspired by the organisation’s commitment to dignity, compassion and support for those most invisible and often ignored in our society.
I look forward to bringing our collective knowledge and expertise together to build on the incredible impact already achieved and ensure The Hardman Trust is a one-stop hub where people serving long sentences can access the support, tools and information they need to live fulfilling lives. I am genuinely excited to lead this vital work for as long as it is needed.”
Annette So, incoming CEO, The Hardman Trust
Our thanks to Alice Dawnay, Interim CEO, who will hand over to Annette in November.
